This album corresponds to the vinyl re-release of Songs for Nathan by Sugarbush Records, originally published digitally by The Active Listener.
Songs for Nathan is a project born out of gratitude and completed with love. It is a long-overdue celebration of the long-distance friendship between Moongazing Hare and Trappist Afterland. It is a tribute to the songwriters who have enriched and influenced us and a number of whose songs we are borrowing for this release. It is also, perhaps most of all a tribute to Nathan Ford, as someone who through the Active Listener has helped create communities, connecting listeners and musicians, giving meaning to the whole process.
Nathan Ford has been a great supporter of underground music for many years, reviewing artists from all around the world through his blog and digital label, The Active Listener.
Nathan has helped both our bands over the last few years, and it could even be said that without his help we would both be still labouring alone, creating music in relative isolation.
Without sharing a story that is not ours to share, it is also our hope that this album, in addition to being an expression of our gratitude, can be a small way to help Nathan and his family through a rough time.
Nathan is certainly a gem among the stones in a sometimes harsh, lonely, competitive and barren place. Songs for Nathan is our way of saying how much he is appreciated by ourselves & the numerous bands and artists he has supported.
With love,
Adam Geoffrey Cole & David Folkmann Drost
All proceeds from the original release were donated to Nathan and his family to help while he recovered from his cancer treatment. We are happy to say that he is doing better!
